Isolation Switches
DC Isolation Switches
These
are used between high voltage DC PV arrays and grid-connect inverters.
They are located adjacent to the inverter and are required to provide a
means of manually isolating the entire PV array during system
installation or any subsequent maintenance.
The switch must be rated for system voltage (1.15 x
string open circuit voltage Voc) and current (1.25 x string short
circuit current Isc).
DC isolators can be provided with 600mm long
MultiContact cables and connectors.
This then allows the entire DC side of the PV
installation to be completed by making only plug & socket connections.
Thus eliminating the possibility of wiring error or accidental exposure
to dangerously high DC voltages during installation.
Note: A PV array is unusual in that it cannot be
turned off - terminals will remain live at all times during daylight
hours. It is important that all junction boxes and switchgear is
suitably labelled.

Double pole On/Off switches.
DC rated for switching under load.

AC Isolation Switches
These are required to provide a means of manually
isolating the AC supply to a grid-connect inverter.
Two AC isolation switches need to be provided between
the inverter and the point of connection to the supply.
One adjacent to the inverter and one adjacent to the consumer unit
(Only one is needed if in the same room). The one adjacent to the
consumer unit must be readily accessible and capable of being locked in
the off position only. Switches must be double pole and suitably
labelled.
Double pole single throw switch lockable in the off
position only, mounted in enclosure. Rated: 230/400 Vac.

G59 Protection Relays
These are usually required for grid-connect inverter
systems greater than 5kW in size and provide additional protection. They
are located between the inverters and the point of connection to the
supply. POA.
OfGem Approved Ac kWh Meters
These are used to accurately record wind or PV generation. OfGem
approved to allow ROC’s or other payments for on-site generation to be
claimed. They are located between the inverters and the point of
connection to the supply. Include pulsed output for connection to
displays.
