...Sunny Boy displays
& communication

In operating a wind or solar system, there is a necessity for trouble-free operation. There are many options for system control and monitoring. From the wireless Sunny Beam, and the proven Sunny Control, to Internet-based worldwide system monitoring with the Sunny WebBox and Sunny Portal with large displays for public areas, there are technical solutions to meet any requirement. Sunny Communications Data Sheet
Communication methods need to be chosen between inverters and monitoring device (eg. Sunny Control) and between this device and external access or display. Often distances involved or number of devices will determine options.
Sunny Boy and Windy Boy inverters are fitted with displays in their lids to show essential information and in addition
all values can be accessed centrally via a PC or a Sunny Boy Control unit
using a choice of communication methods and data-interfaces.
Operating state monitoring, fault monitoring and data acquisition are carried out within the Sunny Boy inverter with the following variables measured:
Plug-in modem allows PC to communicate via mains wiring to
inverters fitted with powerline modems. Versions are available for both RS232 or
USB ports on the PC. In three phase systems a phase coupler is required to allow
powerline communication across the phases.
Direct connection to a single inverter fitted with an RS232 piggyback board is possible but for multiple inverters, each needs to be fitted with RS485 piggyback boards connected together then an RS485/RS232 or RS485/USB converter allows connection to a PC port.
Sunny Data Windows software can then be used on a PC to enable easy and graphical representation of data
allowing comparison between array strings; display of spot values; or PV-plant
management. (Available for download from

Service cables allow easy and reliable communication between a single inverter and a laptop PC
to enable installer checking or setting of inverter parameters. Particularly
useful for installation of Windy Boy inverters to allow inverters to be
matched to the turbine.
This
allows wireless communication with up to four Sunny Boy inverters fitted
with Sunny Beam transmitters. In this case each inverter is fitted with
Sunny Beam transmitter piggy back interfaces. Radio signal range of
up to 30m inside buildings and up to 100m outside. Powered by integral solar
cell and rechargeable battery, graphic display shows daily yield (kWh) current
power (W) and total yield (kWh).The Sunny Beam stores one
months data which can be downloaded to a PC via USB.
Data Sheet Product Code: SWR-SB
Sunny Boy & windy Boy inverters have polarised MultiContact connectors for connection of the DC input. These adaptor cables are useful for use between the inverter and DC isolators from the PV array or wind turbine controller.
SWR-MC is for use with Sunny Boy & Windy Boy inverters up to 3800W. SMC-MC for use with SMC 5000A/6000A or WB-5000A/6000A.
Grounding Kits allow DC grounding of Sunny Boy inverters for use with certain PV modules. Positive grounding for back-contact modules (eg. Sunpower); and negative grounding for some thin-film modules.
