About Us

Picture of Wind & Sun's office and training centre, with solar tracker, SEN SOL-50 and integrated photovoltaic panels.Wind & Sun has been established since 1984 specialising in the small scale renewables business, designing, supplying & installing wind & solar electricity systems. Since that time, the business has grown to an international level, with clients from all over the world.

Wind Sun has built it’s reputation based on extensive hands on experience and has been at the forefront of the renewables industry, pioneering many applications.

Background

Wind & Sun was launched in 1984.  We design, supply and install wind and solar systems to customers' requirements. The company’s main experience has been with providing power supplies for remote situations, e.g. isolated housing, monitoring and telemetry systems and leisure applications (such as boats and caravans). Wind & Sun are now working increasingly with planners, architects and builders installing larger systems for properties with a grid electricity supply, as a means for users to generate their own electricity in an environmentally benign way. We have unique experience in providing off grid wind and solar power supplies; from remote farms to complete electricity networks for whole islands.
See Flat Holm Island and the Isle of Foula for more information.

ISO Accredited

Wind & Sun are accredited for both ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 for "Renewable energy distribution and installation".

Distributors

We are the main UK distributors for SMA, REC, SEN (SOL-50), Morningstar, Lorentz, NRG and Outback. We hold extensive stock and can offer competitive prices, good technical support and service to installers.  We have a network of installers we can recommend throughout the country for both wind and solar systems.

Quality and Economy

All equipment has been chosen for high reliability, efficiency and low maintenance. We aim to work with manufacturers to provide the best and most appropriate equipment available at the right prices. Our policy is to supply equipment at the same prices as can be obtained direct from the manufacturers.

Installations

Picture of Wind & Sun installing Schletter's solar PV ground mounts on the Isle of Eigg.We started as an installation company and remain fully accredited installers for PV and wind systems both grid connected and off grid.

However, apart from some special projects (notably island electrification schemes) we no longer undertake installations our selves but instead work with a network of experienced accredited installers throughout the country who can give a local service. We are able to recommend installers in most locations.

Alternatively, installation of many of the smaller items is straightforward and instructions, based on experience, can be provided. Towers, brackets and fittings etc. can be supplied for most situations.

Advice

Descriptions of equipment on this site have been kept to a minimum and we have a more extensive catalogue which you can request using the link at the side of this page (Currently being revised and out of print). Individual data sheets for most products - giving a fuller description - are available in the 'Resources' tab on the tables by each product description. If you have any questions about the products or their application just ask.

Wind and Sun have extensive contacts, so most requirements can be catered for, or specific enquirers pointed in the right direction. We ourselves have used (and lived with) many of the systems and items of equipment listed, so advice is based on 'hands on' experience of the benefits and potential pitfalls of renewable energy.
