Sunny Island 3.0M/4.4M

Designed for rough ambient conditions for stand alone or grid back up operation. Rated to give a power output of 3.0kW or 4.4kW for 30 min.

  • OptiCool system ensures high power in high temperatures by cooling the encapsulated transformer but keeping air ventilation away from coated circuit boards & electronics to ensure high protection for humid or salty atmospheres.
  • Includes two free programmable relays per unit to enable load shedding or other use and timers to enable daily, weekly, or monthly functions.

Inverters are used with the Sunny Island Remote Control which gives a single point of operation. One Remote Control is required per cluster of up to three inverters and includes integrated MMC/SD memory card reader to enable updates, transferring of parameter settings, for storing error/events lists, or data logging.

In single-phase systems only one SI3.0M-11 or SI4.4M-11 can be used. Three-phase systems can be achieved using a cluster of three SI3.0M-11 or SI4.4M-11 inverters, multi-cluster systems are not possible with these inverters.

Sunny Island 6.0H/8.0H

Powerful inverters with rated power outputs of 6kW or 8kW for 30 min. which can be stacked in clusters for higher power levels in both single phase and three phase networks. Systems up to 300kW are possible.

Includes all the features of the Sunny Island 3.0M/4.4M listed above, but in addition:

  • up to 3 units can be stacked in a single phase cluster
  • up to 36 inverters can be used in a Multicluster system when combined with MultiCluster Boxes

One Remote Control is required per cluster of up to three inverters. In stacked cluster or multi-cluster systems all settings are made at the main unit which gives automatic setting of parameters in slave units allowing easy programming and update.

Sunny Island Remote Control

For use with Sunny Island SI-3.0M/4.4M/6.0H/8.0H. One remote control is needed per system and allows all settings to be made conveniently. Uses a self explanatory menu interface and rotary switch to give a single point of operation even in MultiCluster systems. Clear four line graphic display shows energy flow between the loads, battery and external energy sources together with battery state of charge status, events and errors.

SMA Sunny Island Multicluster Grid Connect Boxes

Used in conjunction with the Sunny Island Multicluster box SI-MC-BOX-12.3.20 to enable use in connection with the grid for self-consumption or battery back-up systems.

The SI-GRID-BOX-12.3-20 can be used with systems up to 138kWp.

The SI-NA-BOX-12.3-20 with systems up to 100kWp where the German VDE-AR-N 4105 standard is required.

Sunny Island Battery/Inverter Breaker

Double pole circuit breakers. These protect the DC cables between batteries and inverters against overcurrent and short-circuit and allow easy isolation for installation or maintenance of the inverters.

Rated for maximum charge/discharge voltage of 75V DC and max. short-circuit current may of 10kA.

Versions for use either with one inverter or clusters of three.

VT (voltage tap) version includes two pole 8A fuses for connection of other equipment.

Frequency Controlled Switches

These are load control devices for off-grid power systems with renewable generation and generation sets or inverters which produce a variable frequency supply.

Used to switch on additional loads to take advantage of surplus renewable generation which cannot be stored. They respond to a rise in the system frequency caused by battery inverters signalling a high state of battery charge, or by low load on a generator with frequency droop.

Each switch will control one appliance and is wired into the cable supplying the appliance. They require no user intervention and will automatically switch the appliance on when the system frequency is high and switch it off when the frequency is low. The frequency setpoint can be adjusted during installation.

They incorporate a number of features to ensure stable operation of an islanded power system:

  • Once the frequency goes above the switch-on setting there is a delay before the appliance is connected; the higher the frequency is above the setting, the shorter the delay.
  • The switch-off setting is a lower frequency than the switch-on setting to ensure stability.
  • Once the frequency goes below the switch-off setting there is a delay before the appliance is disconnected; the lower the frequency is beneath the setting, the shorter the delay.

Can control loads up to 13A (3kW at 230V; 1.5kW at 120V). The most appropriate loads are heaters (water heaters, storage heaters, space heaters). Appliances with pumps are not appropriate due to the potential for rapid switching of loads.
