Why use an installer?

An installer will:

  • Visit you and conduct a site survey
  • Prepare a proposal & quotation
  • Install your system
  • Inform your local electricity company (DNO) that they have installed a generation system at your property.

What to look for in your installer

When looking to purchase a renewables system both home and business owners should consider where to give their trust, as well as their money.

Choosing a renewable energy system is a long term investment and should not simply be a price based decision.

It is important to choose reliable products and get them installed well so that energy and income returns are maximised and everything will work reliably for a long time.

Things to consider in an installer are:

  • How long have they been in business?
  • What is their turnover?
  • How many employees?
  • Are they from your region or have they just settled 1 month ago? (many installer cowboys operate 3 months in one region and then move on)
  • What are the brands of modules and inverters they propose? Have they used them for 1 year at least or have they just selected them because they are on sale somewhere or are the cheapest in the market?
  • Will the manufacturers still be in business in the future to honour any warranties offered?
  • Have they shown you ONE YEAR performance data from installations they have done near you? or elsewhere? With which brand?
  • Do they have that data available?
  • What is their experience?
  • Do they have insurance for their work?
  • Can they give you references from 6 months ago? 1 year ago?
  • Do they use proper safe scaffolding?
  • Do they make weatherproof fastenings to the roof that will last for a long time?
  • Have they checked that your roof is in good condition?
  • Will they make sure the system will look as good as possible?
  • Remember, you tend to get what you pay for and if something seems too good to be true it probably is!
